Next, visit the Salineras de Maras, a vast complex of over 3,000 salt pools that have been in use since pre-Inca times. Walk among the pools and discover the traditional methods of salt extraction. The unique landscape offers fantastic photo opportunities and a glimpse into ancient practices.
Return to Cusco, reflecting on the rich history and breathtaking Andean scenery encountered throughout the tour.
Itinerary
We depart from Cusco towards the highlands of Maras and Moray, enjoying a picturesque journey through the Sacred Valley. Our first stop is Moray, a set of circular agricultural terraces that the Incas used as an agricultural laboratory. Here, our guide will explain to us how these terraces allowed the creation of microclimates to experiment with different crops. The view from the top of the terraces is impressive and allows us to appreciate the ingenious Inca engineering.
Then, we continue to the Salineras de Maras, a complex of more than 3,000 saline pools that have been exploited since pre-Inca times. We will have the opportunity to walk among the pools and learn about the traditional salt extraction process. The landscape here is unique and offers excellent photo opportunities. After this fascinating visit, we return to Cusco, enjoying the panoramic views of the Andean landscapes along the way.
